The MacArthur Funds for Arts & Culture at The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation provides professional development grants to help grantees enhance administrative, management, and artistic practices. This year, we provided $123,400 in professional development grants to 67 organizations (34% of all current MacArthur-Driehaus grantees).

In addition, and in response to needs expressed by many grantees, 36 MacArthur-Driehaus grantees are participating in a year-long board development training conducted by the Arts & Business Council of Chicago.

 

16th Street Theater $1,000 for the Artistic Director to attend the National New Play Network's National Showcase of New Plays at the University of Texas at Austin.

2nd Story $1,100 to support the Managing Director's participation in online Nonprofit Management courses offered by the University of Illinois at Chicago on individual donor cultivation and marketing.

A Red Orchid Theatre $2,000 to support on-site training by a professional consultant to create a 2-year Audience Development & Communications plan.

Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) $1,500 to support attendance at the Jazz Connect conference in New York City. 

The Agency Theatre Collective $2,000 to support master classes for company members in movement-based techniques and the creation of new work.

Asian Improv aRts Midwest $3,600 to participate in Japan Day Festival in San Francisco, CA.

Blair Thomas & Company $2,000 to support on-premise training of new staff by a certified management accountant.

Chicago a cappella $1,500 to support the Executive Director’s attendance at the Chorus America national conference in Cincinnati, OH.

Chicago Bach Ensemble $1,500 to support master classes at the International Course of Early Music in Daroca, Spain.

Chicago Community Chorus $2,000 to attend a week-long Choral Artistry workshop at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.

Chicago Danztheatre $2,500 to support on-site training by a consultant for the development and implementation of a new marketing plan.

Chicago Film Archives $3,000 to support attendance at the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) conference in Pittsburgh, PA. 

Chicago Fringe Festival $2,000 to support attendance at the World Fringe Congress in Montreal, Canada.

Chicago Independent Radio Project $1,250 to attend "Non Comm," the annual conference for non-commercial radio producers, in Philadelphia, PA.

Civitas Ensemble $2,500 to support on-site training by a consultant in public relations.

Cock & Bull Theatre $1,500 for registration at the Network of Ensemble Theatres (NET) Intersection symposium.

Collaboraction $1,700 to attend the Theater Communication Group’s (TCG) annual conference in Washington, DC.

Community Film Workshop $1,700 to attend the National Alliance of Media Arts and Culture conference in Oakland, CA.

Congo Square Theatre $1,000 to attend the Social Media Week seminar in Chicago.

Dance COLEctive $1,000 to support consultation with American Dance Abroad regarding international touring opportunities and networking.

DanceWorks Chicago $2,000 for on-site consultation regarding the upgrade of Salesforce for Non-Profits.

Deeply Rooted Dance Theater $2,000 to participate in the Intuit QuickBooks training program and follow-up training. 

dropshift dance $1,400 to support on-site training in web design and upkeep.

Ensemble Dal Niente $2,500 to pay an on-site consultant to train staff and board to implement new individual donor fundraising strategies.

Ensemble Espanol $1,000 to support on-site peer-exchange between company Artistic Director and that of DanceWorks Chicago.

Evanston History Center $1,800 to support attendance at the Alliance of American Museums (AAM) conference in Washington, D.C. 

Experimental Sound Studio $1,500 to attend the Society of American Archivists annual conference in Atlanta, GA.

Fifth House Ensemble $2,200 to support a series of teambuilding workshops for the ensemble that will strengthen internal operations and strategies for increasing earned revenue.

Filament Theater $1,500 to support attendance at the American Alliance for Theatre Education (AATE) conference in Boston, MA.

Filter Photo $1,300 to attend the Medium Festival of Photography in San Diego, CA.

Free Street Theater $900 to support the General Manager’s participation in a 3-day intensive Bootcamp for New Nonprofit CEOs at North Park University.

Global Girls $2,000 to pay a consultant to work with staff, board, and actors to create an audience development plan.

Haymarket Opera Company $2,100 for on-site coaching sessions in the Italian language.

High Concept Laboratories $1,400 to attend the Alliance for Artists' Communities annual conference in Portland, OR.

Honey Pot Performance $3,200 to participate in the Hemispheric Institute's 2016 Encuentro conference in Santiago, Chile.

Hothouse $2,100 to send its Executive Director to WOMEX (World Music Exposition) in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

Hyde Park Jazz Festival $2,850 to support attendance at the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) conference in New York and the New York Winter Jazz Festival.

Khecari $1,300 to attend the School for Body-Mind Centering in Durham, NC.

Kuumba Lynx $2,000 to support on-site training in the areas of gender, domestic violence, and consent.

KV 265 $3,300 to attend the League of American Orchestras Conference in Baltimore, MD.

Live the Spirit Residency $2,700 to support attendance at the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) conference and the Jazz Connect conference in New York, NY.

Lucky Plush Productions $1,400 to attend continuing education courses at the University of Illinois Chicago in Mastering Grant Writing and Marketing Management.

MAKE Literary Productions $1,500 to support an extensive on-boarding workshop by a nonprofit consultant for incoming staff.

Media Burn/Fund for Innovative TV $1,750 to support the Executive Director’s attendance at the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) conference in Pittsburgh, PA.

Mitchell Museum of the American Indian $1,400 to attend the American Association of State and Local History national conference in Ann Arbor, MI.

Molly Shanahan/Mad Shak $2,000 to support travel and lodging for Silo residency (Bucks County, PA) for four collaborators.

Nothing Without A Company $1,500 for on-site training by a facilitator to develop a strategic plan and to participate in the Arts & Business Council’s board member matching program.

Oak Park Festival Theatre $550 to support participation in Intuit Quickbooks training. 

The Plagiarists $800 to participate in a 3-day seminar in QuickBooks.

Pleasant Home $1,800 to participate in two online Museum Studies training programs.

RE Dance Group $1,500 to attend the annual Dance/USA conference in Austin, TX.

Red Clay Dance $1,300 to attend the Community Word Project's Summer Institute in New York, NY.

Red Tape Theatre $1,300 to support a company member’s attendance at DePaul University’s 10-week grant writing course.

Rembrandt Chamber Players $1,700 to attend the Chamber Music America conference in New York, NY.

RHINO Poetry $1,000 to support attendance at the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) conference in in Washington, D.C.

Rivendell Theatre Ensemble $2,600 to support attendance at the Pacific Playwrights Festival in Southern California.

Sideshow Theatre $1,100 to attend the National Arts Marketing Project Conference in Austin, TX.

Silent Theatre Company $2,400 to support intensive study with Dean Evans for ten ensemble members.

Spektral Quartet $3,000 for the ensemble to attend Chamber Music America's annual conference in New York City and to support costs associated with preparation for a showcase performance at the conference.

Stage Left Theatre $2,000 to support on-premise training by a development consultant to train staff in foundation, corporate, and government fundraising strategy.

Steep Theatre $1,800 to attend the Theater Communication Group’s (TCG) annual conference in Washington, DC.

Strawdog Theatre $3,000 for Arts Consulting Group to conduct a one-day board planning summit to lay the groundwork to launch a capital campaign.

Theatre Y $3,500 to support a 5-week intensive training for 18 ensemble members by French actor/director Georges Bigot.

Third Coast Percussion $1,700 to support study with a master of Shona music and the mbira, an instrument featured prominently in this Zimbabwean tradition. 

Walkabout Theatre Ensemble $2,700 to support a week-long intensive training with Canadian vocalist and master teacher Fides Krucker.

Waltzing Mechanics $1,200 to support participation in a one-week institute on oral history-based interview theater at the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center in Queens, NY. 

Winifred Haun & Dancers $1,500 to support on-site consulting fees for board and staff training to increase individual giving and grow their new major donor circle.
