The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation is pleased to announce a $10 million grant to the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry to support renovation of its South Portico entrance. This is the largest grant awarded by the Foundation since it was established in 1983 and will honor its founder through naming of the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation South Portico Entrance.

The project is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reopen the original main entry of the Museum and reconnect the building to the Columbian Basin and Jackson Park. It will allow the building to welcome and interact with the neighborhood and South Side of Chicago as well as thousands of new visitors attracted to the area with the opening of the Obama Presidential Center.

The South Portico entrance project reflects Richard H. Driehaus’ passion for architectural preservation and provides an opportunity to transform the only remaining building from Chicago’s 1893 Columbian Exposition. He would be proud to play a part in this renovation at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry which remains an important part of Chicago’s history.
