On June 27th, LISC Chicago hosted the 30th annual Chicago Neighborhood Development Awards and welcomed more than 700 guests to the recently landmarked Apollo’s 2000 theater in the Little Village neighborhood. The awards recognize the essential role that both non-profit and for-profit developers play in building communities in Chicago-area neighborhoods.
The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Awards for Architectural Excellence in Community Design honor projects that incorporate superior architecture and quality design as part of the development process in new construction and historic preservation. Richard H. Driehaus believed deeply that quality architecture in Chicago’s neighborhoods conveyed dignity and respect for residents, once remarking “Thoughtful design is essential to healthy neighborhoods, well-being, and pride of place.”
We celebrate the 2024 Driehaus winners presented with awards totaling $30,000.
First Place – Chicago Park District Headquarters, John Ronan Architects
Second Place – BUILD Chicago, LBBA Architects
Third Place – Heiwa Terrace Apartments, LBBA Architects
Honorable Mention – Enlace Chicago, Canopy
The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Community Design Impact Award, recognizing an individual architect of color who has demonstrated commitment to design excellence in community development, was awarded to Maya Bird-Murphy. The $10,000 prize honors her work as Founder and Executive Director of Mobile Makers, a nonprofit organization that creates programming encouraging youth to become advocates and change-makers in their own communities through design-focused skill-building workshops.
We congratulate all the award winners as they continue to prioritize the importance of quality design in Chicago neighborhoods!
