The Foundation is proud to announce a $2 million grant to the South Side Community Art Center (SSCAC) in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood. This transformative investment will help restore and expand the nation’s oldest Black American art center, ensuring its legacy as a cultural hub for generations to come.
Highlights of the renovation project include:
• Restoration of the historic 1892 building
• 9,700 square foot addition with new galleries, artist studios, archives and rooftop deck
• Accessibility upgrades, including elevators
• Sustainable geothermal heating and cooling systems
The grant contributes to SSCAC’s $15 million project budget, with completion anticipated in 2027.
